In our previous article, we pointed out that in Ghostbusters 2, the psychic Elaine says her encounter with the Alien occurs in the “Paramus Holiday Inn”.
Quite often, when a specific place like this is mentioned in fiction of a paranormal nature you will see people reporting encounters off all different types in that area. There are many reports of people seeing things near the Devils Tower after Close Encounters of the Third Kind for example.
Fiction feeds the imagination and spirit of exploration, which leads to people encountering more real/imagined/somewhere in-between phenomena, which then feeds tales on the internet and word of mouth. These tales are then fed back through the cultural system as the inspiration for more fiction and the cycle continues. Phenomena evolve over time through this process of real and unreal, fiction and truth.
Looking at the Paramus area we see a few prevalent local legends but no any exact instances of the copycat effect or close reflections of Elaine’s account.
The actual Holiday inn is pictured below, and can be found at 50 NJ-17, Paramus, NJ 07652, United States
Looking into this, I uncovered a goldmine of “Creepypasta” style tales on Tripadvisor when you search for things such as “holiday in haunted” or “holiday inn strange encounter”. There are hundreds of similar tales, some of them quite terrifying.
I will collect some of the best and get them up on the site here over the next week.
“I booked a 2 day at Holiday Inn Express without knowledge that the hotel was haunted. There was no disclosure to me about it.
I got attacked at about 4:30 AM on my first night by a ghost who slapped my thigh first then jumped onto me (locking both my thighs) and locking both of my wrists (my door was well secured with the dead lock as well as the metal strap).”
It looks like Trip Advisor is onto posts like this, as at the end of the thread (which has at least 10 interactions from other trip advisor accounts) they say
“-:- Message from TripAdvisor staff -:-

Time for some more investigating, I bet there is a lot more to be found on similar sites!
